AtlantiCare Board of Trustees names David P. Tilton president and CEO of AtlantiCare

The AtlantiCare Board of Trustees named David P. Tilton, president and CEO of AtlantiCare Thursday, March 29. Tilton succeeds George F. Lynn, who retired from AtlantiCare after 20 years of service. Tilton will lead the more than 4,460 employees and more than 550 physicians who provide services at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC), the AtlantiCare Foundation, AtlantiCare Health Services, AtlantiCare Health Plans and AtlantiCare Behavioral Health (ABH).

Tilton joined ARMC in March of 1987 as administrator of the hospital’s Mainland campus. He has served as ARMC’s CEO for more than 13 years, a role he will continue. Tilton was instrumental in transforming ARMC from a two-campus community hospital to its becoming part of the regional health system—AtlantiCare.

A staunch supporter of enhancing access to care, Tilton led ARMC through many building and program milestones aimed at meeting the community’s need for care. These included opening the region’s first cardiac catheterization lab and its only cardiac surgery program. He expanded cancer programs and services with the creation of the RNS Regional Cancer Center. He enhanced the level of care for critically injured patients by advocating for making ARMC a level II Regional Trauma Center, which today is one of the busiest trauma centers in New Jersey.

“Whether he’s having discussions with staff in town meetings, speaking with individual patients or testifying before government agencies about community needs, David is focused on improving the health and wellbeing of the community,” said Michael Neustadter, chairman of the Board of Trustees of AtlantiCare, who served as chairman of ARMC’s Board of Governors from 1995 through 2003. “He truly listens, learns and resolves to find solutions and innovative programs - especially in addressing challenges we face both as a nation and as the community’s largest healthcare provider.”

Tilton led ARMC’s team in opening a $35 million expansion of its Mainland campus in Pomona, New Jersey in 2005 and is overseeing a $110 million expansion of the hospital’s City campus, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, which will open at the end of 2007.
