Early Detection

Cancers differ – there are many different types, all affecting different organs or cells. For some cancers, such as breast, colon, and prostate, early detection can mean a much better chance for survival.

The American Cancer Society has early detection recommendations for several cancers including breast cancer, colon and rectal cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer, and testicular cancer. These recommendations are based on scientific research and expert opinion. Methods of early detection can include self-examination, x-ray or laboratory tests, or a combination of both.
