Our Approach
Healthy Schools, Healthy Children focuses on helping kids do three things:
- Master wholesome eating behaviors
- Create enduring exercise habits
- Form healthy attitudes toward themselves and toward food
Healthy Schools, Healthy Children works with schools to help them create fitness and nutrition programs. One of our School Health Coordinators works with each individual school to create a comprehensive plan tailored to its students’ needs. These plans include:
- Developing the school’s Wellness Policy (as mandated by the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act)
- Creating a Health Advisory Committee
- Designing effective fitness plans
- Initiating classroom activities based on healthy eating and fitness
- Providing additional information and resources, such as assemblies with guest speakers
- Involving parents and the community in the process
