Northfield Community School Garden is Marching to the “Beet”!

stock beetsGarden Beets: Did you know? Both the beet root and leaves are edible!

The Northfield Community School Garden Club spent several weeks developing a plan for a successful spring garden. Our plan is based on the concept of square foot gardening. We began by getting our greenhouse ready and purchasing soil, seeds and a few starter plants. We also received a barrel from a local car wash which we cleaned, cut and painted to become large strawberry pots. We have started to grow from seed: Beets, Purple topped Turnips, Broccoli Raab, Arugula, a variety of lettuces, Rosemary, Chives, and Cilantro. Our success rate with starting from seeds has been spectacular. We look forward to slightly warmer weather so we can get everything outside and start our square foot garden!
