School Based Youth Services Programs

Overview

The mission of the School Based Youth Services Programs is to provide young people with the services and supports they need to complete their education, obtain skills leading to employment or additional education and lead mentally and physically healthy lives.

Social services provided by this program are designed to provide accessible services to the students of the Buena Regional High School and their families regardless of their ability to pay.

Services

The Center offers the following core services:

  • Mental Health services including assessment and referral, individual and group therapy crisis intervention and prevention education.
  • Substance Abuse services including assessment and referral, individual and group therapy and prevention education.
  • Employment counseling including job readiness and job retention skills training, life skills training and job search assistance.
  • Primary and Preventive Health services including primary care, immunizations, pregnancy testing and prevention services.
  • Pregnancy prevention services including education and referrals.
  • Learning support services including tutoring.
  • Case management services including referrals, transportation and coordination of services.
  • Recreation services including games, sports and computers.

Background

The Kids Count New Jersey Report funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation ranked Atlantic County 20th of 21 New Jersey counties in the overall assessment of children's and adolescent's well-being. The indicators used to measure well-being included: births to adolescents, infant mortality rate, Aid to Families with Dependent Children, Food Stamp recipients, reported cases of child abuse and neglect, out-of-home placement, juvenile commitment rate, child death rate, absence of prenatal care, and low birth rate.
