Medication Monitoring

We provide medication services to adults who are stable on their prescribed medication and are no longer in need of additional outpatient services.

Medication monitoring service provides medication evaluations, medication education, monitoring and care coordination related to the services. A clinician initially assesses all clients considered for admission, diagnoses are rendered, and recommendations for care are made. At this step all client cases are triaged. Some clients will need an inpatient hospitalization, some clients will need a more intensive level of care such as a partial hospitalization and some clients will be placed in an outpatient level of care.

We require all clients to participate in a minimum of six months of outpatient treatment, combining psychotherapy with medications indicated before they are eligible for medication monitoring services. Clients in this level of care are not in need of any other behavioral health interventions at AtlantiCare Behavioral Health.

Clients are able to be referred to mediation monitoring only services from our other levels of care such as partial care or outpatient care; therefore, making direct admissions into the monitoring only services not appropriate. Because this level of care is less intensive than other levels of care, we do require a six month period of medication compliance, stability in functioning and a support system around the client to continue in this level of care. If clients are in medication monitoring only services and symptoms develop which require more intensive care, referrals will be made, care will be rendered and then following a return to stabilization will the client be reconsidered for monitoring only service.

The Registered Nurse is the care coordinator for this program. Each new case being considered for the program will have a medication monitoring only services referral form completed by their primary clinician. The nurse will review the admission criteria, review the case with the multidisciplinary team and either accept or reject the case based on criteria.

After hours emergency coverage is provided through the 24-hour Psychiatric Intervention Program (which is managed by AtlantiCare Behavioral Health) located at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.
