The Joint Institute at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center
One of 13 JCAHO Accredited Programs in the Nation
AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Joint Institute has earned Disease-Specific Care
Certification from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The
JCAHO gave ARMC its Gold Seal of Approval™ for meeting stringent standards and providing the
highest quality of care.
How Did The Joint Institute Become Accredited?
To earn this distinction, the ARMC Joint Institute underwent an extensive on-site evaluation review by
a team of Joint Commission reviewers. The Joint Institute was evaluated against Joint Commission
standards through an assessment of the program’s processes and of its ability to evaluate and improve
care. The Joint Commission also interviewed patients and staff. The certification is indicative of the
Joint Institute’s compliance with consensus-based national standards.
The surveyors
noted that the Joint Institute offers an exceptional quality of care, and awarded
the program full accreditation. ARMC's Joint Institute is one of three programs in
the state, and 13 in the nation, to have this accreditation.

“The Joint Institute provides a comfortable and motivational environment. Our team of
physicians, nurses, physical therapists and other staff use the most advanced technology to help
patients regain as healthy and active life-styles as possible.”
-- Frederick Dalzell, MD, orthopaedic surgeon and medical director of the Joint Institute at ARMC
What is Unique About the Joint Institute at ARMC?
Patients attend a pre-surgery educational meeting to learn what they will experience before, during and
after surgery. A “buddy,” either a friend or family member, accompanies the patient to learn the
nuances of his/her procedure. The buddy’s role is to encourage and motivate the patient. During their
hospital stay, patients participate in physical therapy and have group lunches in the Joint Institute Club
House. This specially designed meeting room has a seashore motif that includes visual incentives to
motivate patients through their therapy.
The Joint Institute also invites former patients to free quarterly luncheons. These luncheons provide
patients the opportunity to network with each other and to provide feedback to ARMC which the
hospital uses to enhance programs and services.
