For patients whose heart conditions can’t be treated with medication or less invasive procedures, heart surgery is sometimes the only option. Since The Heart Institute at ARMC ’s inception in 2001, our surgical team has performed more than 1,000 cardiac surgical procedures with excellent clinical outcomes. ARMC’s Division of Cardiac Surgery offers coronary artery revascularization with or without cardiopulmonary bypass (including off-pump or “beating heart” bypass), minimally invasive valve repair and valve replacement, and aortic reconstruction for aneurysm or dissection.

ARMC ’s expert surgeons -- James Dralle, MD, and Howard Axelrod, MD -- have over 15 years experience as attending physicians in the practice of cardiac surgery. Both doctors are members of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at New York University Medical Center – one of the most prestigious cardiac surgery programs in the U.S. -- and serve on the faculty of New York University School of Medicine.
