Electrophysiology (EPS)
Electrophysiologists evaluate and treat heart rhythm disturbances - irregularities in the electrical circuits that make our hearts beat. At ARMC's new $2-million EP lab, chief of electrophysiology Nader Ghaly, MD, and his colleagues bring the latest innovations in heart rhythm management to patients in South Jersey. From evaluation and treatment to follow-up throughout each patient's life, ARMC's electrophysiology staff offers high-tech and high-touch care - experienced and technologically advanced and still very warm, human and compassionate.
Electrophysiology Diagnosis
To diagnose heart rhythm disorders, doctors thread thin wires called catheters through patients' veins or arteries and into the heart. The wires help record electrical signals from the heart's inner surface. This helps our heart doctors make accurate diagnoses and find the most appropriate treatment. Our cardiologists use diagnostic procedures such as:
- Tilt table tests, which can help cardiologists find out if there is a problem with the body's ability to regulate heart rate and blood pressure.
- Cardiac mapping -- an advanced that "maps" the electrical system of your heart with color views. This helps your cardiologist to know precisely where abnormal heart rhythms originate.
Electrophysiology Treatment
You don't have to travel to access high-quality electrophysiology diagnostic and treatment services. AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's EP professionals offer experienced, compassionate care to keep your heart in sync. Service offered include:
- Permanent and Biventricular Pacemaker Implantation
Pacemakers help set regular rhythms in damaged hearts. Our specialists have
implanted thousands of pacemakers over the years with excellent results, and we provide comprehensive pacemaker follow-up services.
More information about pacemaker implantation is available in our Health Library »
- Ablation
Ablation uses radiofrequency waves to reshape areas of the heart and establish
better electrical flow. Ablation is generally used to treat persistent heart rhythm disturbances that that don't respond to traditional medical treatments.
More information about ablation is available in our Health Library »
- Automated Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator (AICD) Implantation
These extremely sophisticated devices have truly revolutionized the world of electrophysiology. In addition to pacing the heart, they can also deliver lifesaving shocks if and when they are needed. In a certain subset of patients, AICDs have significantly improved survival.
