Michael L. Nance, MD
Dr. Nance is currently the Josephine J. and John M. Templeton, Jr. Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He has had a career long interest in trauma beginning in medical school at Louisiana State University and The Charity Hospital of New Orleans. This interest was fostered during surgical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as was his interest in pediatric surgery. These two areas have come together at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where Dr. Nance is the Director of the Pediatric Trauma Program and a busy academic pediatric general surgeon. During his academic career, Dr. Nance has focused research efforts primarily on pediatric trauma care with study of such issues as pediatric firearm injury, solid organ injury, access to trauma care and mild traumatic brain injury. Dr. Nance has held leadership positions in local and regional organizations as well as nationally in APSA, EAST and the ACS-COT.
