Program Overview & Objectives

You are cordially invited to attend the eighth annual cardiovascular nursing symposium. Enhance your cardiac knowledge, network with colleagues, and enjoy the spectacular shopping and night life that Atlantic City offers.

Christopher Derivaux, MD, will explore the new innovations in thoracic surgery. He will share his years of experience in patient selection, types of procedures, and complex management.

Carol Gray RN, FNP-BC, MSN, is a known patient advocate and renowned author on the management of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). She will help you understand the diagnosis and management of PAH.

Dr. Loftus, DO, will discuss this innovative therapy for post cardiac arrest patients. She will share her experiences in management and discuss outcomes of therapy.

Ethan Nhan, PharmD, will walk you through the recently published guidelines on hypertension management.

Khashayar Salartash, MD, will discuss ultrasonic drug infusion devices that gently accelerate the penetration thrombolytic agents into the thrombus. He will share his experience on how this new technology has given more treatment options for pulmonary emboli (PE), arterial occlusions, and DVT.

Howard Axelrod, MD, will describe minimally invasive surgical valvular procedures verses the new innovative transcatheter procedures.

At the conclusion of the program the participants should be able to:

    • Discuss optimizing medication management for the heart failure patient to prevent re-admission.
    • Identify the patient with pulmonary arterial hypertension and treatment options.
    • Formulate a treatment plan based on JNC-8 Guidelines for hypertension management.
    • Examine the role that ultrasonic drug infusion devices have in the management for PE, arterial occlusions and DVT.
    • Recognize complications that can occur in complex thoracic surgery patients.
    • Identify patient selection criteria for the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
