Know the facts about heart disease.

Heart disease is still the leading cause of death in the United States. Every year, about 735,000 Americans have a heart attack — and many of those are a first heart attack. Heart attacks occur when the flow of blood to the heart muscle is blocked. Heart attacks have major warning signs and symptoms: chest pain or discomfort; upper-body pain or discomfort in the arms, back, neck, jaw or upper stomach; shortness of breath; and nausea or lightheadedness.

Heart check Risk Evaluation

Congestive heart failure is frequently a byproduct of a heart attack — when the heart muscle is damaged, an area of the heart is left scarred and can no longer function normally. Also known as heart failure, congestive heart failure can also be caused by coronary artery disease, which is a condition where plaque builds up in arteries and constricts the flow of oxygen and nutrients. Other conditions including high blood pressure and diabetes can also cause congestive heart failure or heart failure over time.

Make sure your heart is in the right place.

With state-of-the-art diagnostic and interventional procedures, two chest pain centers, and the area’s only cardiac surgery program, AtlantiCare offers the cardiovascular care you need when you need it.
