More people are surviving cancer than ever before, thanks in part to medical advances available at the AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute. As a Fox Chase Cancer Center Partner, AtlantiCare has invested millions of dollars to bring new cancer-fighting technologies and distinguished oncology specialists to southeastern New Jersey — so those facing cancer and their loved ones don't have to drive far to find the quality care they need and deserve.
AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Department of Radiation Oncology is accredited by the American College of Radiology for radiation therapy. James C. Wurzer, MD, PhD, is medical director of Radiation Oncology.
ARMC's Radiation Oncology team uses innovative technologies to treat many types of cancer with greater accuracy and safety and with fewer side effects. In addition, because these technologies allow ARMC's radiation oncologists to precisely pinpoint high doses of therapy at the tumor site, they can provide some treatments in fewer sessions over a shorter period of time than in traditional radiation.
AtlantiCare's Radiation Oncology Services include high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy for breast and gynecological cancers (AtlantiCare is designated as a SAVI® Partial Breast Treatment Center of Excellence); linear accelerator image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) for head and neck, breast, prostate, lung, colorectal, and other cancers; RapidArc™ radiotherapy technology, which delivers treatment in two minutes or less; intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for solid-tumor cancers; 64-slice PET/CT scanning to stage tumors and track the progress of treatment and CyberKnife®, a non-invasive way of performing radiosurgery for tumors anywhere in the body.
ARMC's Department of Medical Oncology and Infusion Services provides Oncology and Infusion Services provides out-patient chemotherapy and other intravenous therapies under the supervision of a full-time board-certified medical oncologist.
Michael J. Kane, MD, FACP, is an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center and is the medical director of ARMC's Department of Medical Oncology.
ARMC's Medical Oncology team also includes certified oncology nurses, registered dietitians, pharmacists, social workers, and other medical professionals who work together to help patients achieve the best outcomes. Fox Chase Cancer Center and AtlantiCare work toward seamless clinical care between the hospitals to broaden access to the latest treatments and clinical trials.
