David H. Livingston, MD, FACS
David H. Livingston, MD, FACS, is a 1981 graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College’s 6-year Biomedical Program. He completed his Surgical Residency at New York University – Bellevue Hospital Medical Center in 1986. From there he went to the University of Louisville as a Fellow in Trauma and Critical Care. He began his career at UMDNJ in 1988 as an Assistant Professor in Surgery and as an attending surgeon on the Trauma Service. In 1995 he became Director of the New Jersey Trauma Center and Chief of the Division of Trauma. He is currently the Wesley J. Howe Professor of Trauma Surgery.

On a national level, Dr. Livingston has served on the Program Committee of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Sock Society and the Association of Academic Surgery. He has been the Councilor for New Jersey to the SouthEastern Surgical Congress and is presently Chair of the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma for the State of New Jersey. He has received several honors including UMDNJ’s Excellence Award in Patient Care for the New Jersey Trauma Center, cited in “Best Doctors in New Jersey” in 1998, and is a recipient of the Exceptional Service Award from the Federal Bureau of Investigation for his work in providing medical support for the FBI/SWAT.

Dr. Livingston’s major research interests are anemia following injury and bone marrow physiology following injury, traumatic brain injury, and the immune consequences for trauma and outcomes related to trauma research.
