Orlando C. Kirton, MD, FACS, FCCM, FCCP
Dr. Orlando Kirton received his BA degree from Brown University in Providence, RI and his medical degree, cum laude, from Harvard. He served his internship and residency in surgery at SUNY and then completed Fellowships in Surgical Critical Care and Surgery of Trauma at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Department of Surgery, University of Miami, School of Medicine, in Miami, Florida. He held the Academic Rank of Associate Professor of Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Miami, School of Medicine, in Miami. In Miami he served as Director of the Trauma ICU and the interim Director of the Trauma service at Jackson Memorial.

He is currently the Ludwig J. Pyrtek, MD Chair in Surgery at Hartford Hospital, in Hartford, Connecticut where he also holds the title of Director of Surgery, Chief of the Division of General Surgery and Associate Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. His current academic rank is Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where he is also the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Surgery. He also serves as Associate Program Director for the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Integrated General Surgery Residency Program.

Dr. Kirton is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery with the added qualification in Surgical Critical Care. He is an active member of several prestigious medical groups including the Eastern Association for Surgery in Trauma (EAST), the Society for Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), the New England Surgical Society (NESS), the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), the Society of University Surgeons (SUS) and the National Medical Association (NMA). He has written extensively and has published several monologues, chapters and numerous articles for refereed journals. He is a nationally known speaker and has lectured on a variety of critical care, education and trauma topics.
