Thomas Scalea, MD
Thomas M. Scalea, MD, FACS, FCCM, received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.

Dr. Scalea is Physician-in-Chief at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Francis X. Kelly/MBNA Professor of Trauma Surgery, and Director of the Program in Trauma at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Scalea is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is a member of many professional societies, including the Association for Academic Surgery, Western Trauma Association, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, and American Association for the Surgery of Trauma.
Dr. Scalea received the University of Maryland School of Medicine Excellence in Teaching Award for every year from 1998 to 2004, the Shock Trauma Center's Hero Award for 2000, 2001, and 2002, and the 2004 Health Services Leadership Award.

He also was the recipient of the Hometown Hero Award for the Central Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Fullwood Valued Hours Award from the Board of Directors of the Fullwood Foundation, Inc.

Dr. Scalea is a member of the editorial board for The Journal of Trauma and Journal of Investigative Surgery. He is the author of numerous journal articles, abstracts, editorials, and book chapters. He has been an invited speaker at national and international symposia relating to trauma and emergency medicine.
