Our physicians and staff at the Breast Health Center use the latest diagnostic technology to provide the most accurate and timely test results. These include:
- Digital mammography, which stores X-ray images of the breast on a computer, rather than on film – allowing the radiologist to manipulate images to better detect abnormalities. All breast imaging studies are read on site by radiologists, so that our patients know the results immediately. In addition, AtlantiCare uses the R2 ImageChecker, a computer that helps radiologists detect cancer at the earliest, most treatable stage.
- Breast ultrasound, sometimes used to further evaluate an abnormality shown on a mammogram or detected during a physical exam.
- Breast biopsies, which involves taking a breast tissue sample for lab analysis. Test results are provided to your physician the next business day.
As part of our commitment to wellness and prevention, AtlantiCare also operates a mobile mammography program that gives women throughout the region access to this important diagnostic test.
AtlantiCare’s breast imaging services are accredited by the American College of Radiology.
