Other Mood Disorders
Hypomania: This condition manifests with noticeable symptoms of mania but not as many or as severe of symptoms. It is associated with Bipolar Disorder II. It doesn’t severely impact day-to-day functioning, but changes in mood and behavior are still distinct. The depressive episodes of Bipolar II can be severe and affect functioning.
Cyclothymic Disorder: This mood disorder features mood disturbances that fluctuate between mildly elevated mood and mildly depressed mood without being severe enough to meet the criteria for Bipolar Disorder, Hypomania or Depression. If untreated, it may increase the chance of developing bipolar disorder. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD): Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, or PMDD, is a severe type of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in which intense emotional and physical symptoms manifest the week before menstruation begins. PMDD can cause periods of depression, mood swings, fatigue and other symptoms that are intense enough to disrupt daily life.
Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD): This mood disorder is characterized by chronic, severe irritability, chronic anger and temper outbursts. It primarily impacts children, and symptoms typically begin prior to age 10.
