Fourth year medical student Kenneth Lam recently administered his 100th COVID vaccination to fellow medical student Rachel Fulton. Lam says he’s felt a sense of responsibility in vaccinating fellow students and AtlantiCare colleagues.

“With every vaccination I’ve given, I’ve treated the individual as I would a family member or a friend,” says Lam.

“It is a privilege to be a medical student who has an impact on COVID care,” says Fulton. “We’re in a unique position to be an example to peers about the importance of being vaccinated.”

Lam, of Orange County California, is studying to be an ophthalmologist. Fulton, of Philadelphia, is studying to be a dermatologist. Both are fourth year students at the AtlantiCare Campus of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM). They are among many medical students who are part of the vaccination team at AtlantiCare.

“Our philosophy is to train caring, capable, compassionate, team-oriented individuals to provide care as physicians in any number of diverse settings,” says Dominick Zampino, D.O., F.A.C.P., medical director of Academic Affairs, AtlantiCare. “These talented members of our team are helping us to slow the spread of COVID. Their enthusiasm and commitment to serving as role models and helping us distribute the vaccine are a testament to the difference they will continue to make throughout their careers.”

In addition to being a branch campus for GCSOM, AtlantiCare has three Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited residency training programs. They include internal medicine, family medicine, and psychiatry residency programs. Its pharmacy residency program is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists. It hosts surgical residents from Temple University Medical School, is a core site for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and is a hub site for Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
