Expert support on your breastfeeding journey

For many new parents, breastfeeding is one of the most rewarding parts of welcoming a baby. It can also come with questions, challenges and a learning curve. Concerns about latching, milk supply and whether your baby is getting enough to eat are common, especially during those first few weeks.

The good news? You don't have to navigate it alone.

As a Baby-Friendly designated health system, AtlantiCare is committed to helping families make informed feeding decisions and providing support every step of the way. Whether you choose to breastfeed, formula feed or combine the two, we're here to help you feel informed, supported and confident in caring for your baby.

Why breastfeed?

Breast milk provides complete nutrition for your baby and contains antibodies that help protect against illness while supporting healthy growth and development. For mothers, breastfeeding has also been linked to a lower risk of certain cancers, diabetes and osteoporosis. It promotes bonding and releases hormones that help the body recover after childbirth.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for about the first six months of life, followed by continued breastfeeding alongside solid foods through at least your baby's first birthday, when possible.

Support from the very beginning

If you choose to breastfeed, AtlantiCare's board-certified lactation consultants are there to help from your baby's very first feeding. During your hospital stay, they'll provide hands-on guidance, answer questions and help address common concerns such as latching difficulties or low milk production.

Support doesn't end when you leave the hospital. Outpatient lactation services are available through AtlantiCare Physician Group OB/GYN offices, so you can continue receiving expert guidance as your breastfeeding journey evolves.

Building confidence together

Parenthood comes with plenty of questions, and having a community can make all the difference. AtlantiCare offers childbirth education classes, breastfeeding education and a bimonthly Mom & Baby Meet-Up where families can connect with other parents, hear from guest speakers and learn about topics ranging from newborn care to maternal wellness.

Whether you're preparing for your baby's arrival or adjusting to life at home, you'll find encouragement, education and support every step of the way.

Every family's journey is unique

Every baby is different, and every feeding journey looks a little different, too. At AtlantiCare, we're here to meet families where they are with compassionate care, trusted expertise and ongoing support, helping you make the choices that are right for you and your baby.
