ATLANTIC CITY and GALLOWAY, NJ - AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC) has earned four stars in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Quality Star Ratings annual update, making them the highest rated acute care hospital in southern New Jersey.

ARMC increased its rating from three to four stars between 2022 and 2023 while many acute care hospitals in the state saw their ratings decrease. The overall timeframe of the data CMS used to calculate the 2023 ratings was April, 2018 through January, 2022.

“We thank our remarkable team for their dedication and congratulate them on this achievement,” said Michael Charlton, interim president and CEO, AtlantiCare. “In the face of challenges that led other hospitals to decline in rating, our 4-stars are a testament to the high-quality care and excellent outcomes we deliver to the communities we serve.”

“Patients often face difficult decisions in choosing the health system or provider that is right for them. These rankings help showcase the quality and safety AtlantiCare provides and will make the choice easier for so many in our service area,” Larisa Goganzer, chief operating officer, ARMC.

The CMS Care Compare website provides consumers with information on over 100 quality measures for over 4,000 hospitals nationwide. The CMS overall annual Hospital Quality Star Rating summarizes data from 46 existing measures for each hospital. Patients and caregivers can also compare a hospital’s performance for many common conditions.

The ratings measure how hospitals perform in five key care areas:

  • Preventable mortalities
  • Preventable hospital readmissions
  • Safety of care
  • The patient’s experience
  • Timeliness and effectiveness of care

The CMS four-star rating is the latest recognition ARMC has garnered. Others include:
