OR Team

AtlantiCare now offers Inspire therapy and is the only health system in the region where patients receive evaluation, treatment and coordinated continuous care all within one health system.

Inspire therapy is a long-term, mask-free1 solution for people with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who have tried and struggled with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP).

OSA is the most common type of sleep apnea and affects roughly 30 million Americans but only six million are diagnosed.2 It occurs when the tongue relaxes back into your airway while you sleep which causes your airway to close. This causes you to wake up and gasp for air.

People with OSA may be at a higher risk for serious health concerns if left untreated like type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart attack, depression and a shortened life span.3

OSA therapies like CPAP use a mask and hose to force air through your airway. Inspire therapy works comfortably4 inside your body and syncs with your natural breathing pattern.  Then, it uses gentle pulses to move your tongue forward to keep your airway open. When your airway is open, you're able to breathe regularly and sleep better.5 No mask or hose needed.  Simply use the small handheld Inspire™ remote to turn your therapy on when you’re ready to sleep.

Inspire therapy has a proven safety record with 99.6% of Inspire implant procedures being successfully completed without any major complications1 and 93% of patients recommend the therapy.6

Inspire is not for everyone. It is a surgically implanted system that is intended to treat obstructive sleep apnea in patients who are not effectively treated by, or able to tolerate CPAP. Talk to your doctors about risks, benefits and expectations associated with Inspire. Risks associated with the surgical implant procedure may include infection and temporary tongue weakness. In rare cases tongue paresis and atrophy may occur. Some patients may require post implant adjustments to the system’s settings in order to improve effectiveness and ease any initial discomfort they may experience. Important safety information and product manuals can be found at inspiresleep.com/safety-information/ or call 1-844-OSA-Help.
