AtlantiCare Opens $75M Expansion Featuring 50 Private Rooms with Integrated Care Technology

AtlantiCare, the award-winning healthcare organization and largest in southeastern New Jersey, marked a major milestone today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of two new patient care floors at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center - Mainland Campus, in Galloway Twp., NJ. Located within the hospital wing called the Meadows Pavilion, the third and fourth floors now house an additional 50 state-of-the-art private rooms, each designed to enhance safety, comfort, and the experience of care.

Michael Charlton, President and CEO of AtlantiCare, addressed attendees alongside Brittany Knapp, Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of the Mainland Campus, NJ Department of Health Acting Commissioner, Jeff Brown, Senator Vince Polistina, Galloway Township Mayor, Tony Coppola, and other local leaders.

"We approached this project with a clear purpose: to create a space that meets the needs of today's patients while anticipating the care demands of tomorrow," said Michael Charlton, President and CEO of AtlantiCare. "That meant working alongside the team members who know this work best and making sure the design reflects what patients and caregivers truly need. This expansion is part of a broader commitment to build a system that is ready for what's next, responsive to South Jersey's needs, and rooted in the belief that exceptional care should always be close to home."

The $75 million project, which includes a $20 million grant from the State of New Jersey, includes 35,000 square feet of new construction atop the existing two floors of the Meadows Pavilion. Each private room is equipped with smart technology that integrates clinical information and empowers patients to control entertainment, temperature, and dining preferences through voice activation or touchscreen monitors.  The expansion also includes in-room digital whiteboards synced with the medical record, dialysis access at the bedside, and ceiling-mounted lifts in select rooms to support patient mobility, among other features designed to enhance the overall care experience.

The layout and finishes were selected in collaboration with nurses, physicians, support teams, and facilities experts. Key features include satellite nursing stations with natural light, decentralized medication and supply areas, and hospitality-inspired aesthetics throughout the unit. Staff lounges are located just off the clinical area, creating spaces where team members can step away and recharge.

As part of the expansion, AtlantiCare's Healing Arts Program introduced original artwork to the patient floors, all commissioned by local artists. The initiative reflects AtlantiCare's belief that healing is also shaped by the physical environment with all the art pieces chosen to create a calm, uplifting environment for patients, visitors, and team members.

Once the third floor is activated for patient care this June, AtlantiCare will begin renovating the first-floor rooms to align with the design and features of the new units, followed by work on the second floor. Additional enhancements across the hospital are planned through 2026, with the full expansion and renovation project on track for completion by the end of that year.

The Meadows Pavilion expansion reflects the momentum of Vision 2030, AtlantiCare's six-year plan to transform healthcare across southeastern New Jersey. Now in its second year, the strategy is driving system-wide improvements, from advancing clinical partnerships and smart infrastructure to expanding specialty services and integrating technologies that improve care delivery. Recent initiatives include the implementation of Oracle tools to streamline workflows, affiliations with Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute and Global Neurosciences Institute, and a new clinical affiliation with Drexel University College of Medicine.
