AtlantiCare also among top 5% nationwide for outpatient orthopedic surgery and joint replacement

EGG HARBOR TWP., NJ, – January 24, 2025 – AtlantiCare, the award-winning healthcare organization and largest in southeastern New Jersey, announced today that it has achieved numerous accolades for clinical excellence from Healthgrades, the #1 site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital. Among AtlantiCare’s distinctions are 17 Clinical Achievements, placing the hospital among the nation’s top 5% for overall cardiac services, cardiac interventional procedures and cardiac surgery. AtlantiCare was also rated one of Healthgrades America’s 50 best hospitals for outpatient joint replacement and orthopedic surgery.

“We are deeply honored to receive these prestigious Healthgrades awards, which highlight AtlantiCare’s steadfast commitment to delivering exceptional care to our patients and the region,” said Michael J. Charlton, President and CEO of AtlantiCare. “These achievements are a reflection of our team’s hard work and expertise, and they further strengthen our mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.”

AtlantiCare’s achievements are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. As part of its 2025 hospital assessment, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine the top performers in specialty care. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades helps consumers find and select a hospital that excels in providing the care they need.

As variation in performance among hospitals continues to grow, it is increasingly important for consumers to seek care at top-rated programs. Healthgrades’ 2025 analysis revealed that if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2021-2023 study period, on average, 224,958 lives could potentially have been saved and 141,692 complications could potentially have been avoided.*

“Healthgrades commends AtlantiCare for their clear commitment to delivering consistently superior patient outcomes in critical service areas, including cardiac services and cardiac surgery,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “AtlantiCare’s leadership, expertise, and unwavering dedication to clinical excellence set a high mark for specialty care in New Jersey and nationwide.”
