Why Screening Is So Important.
Each year, nearly 1 million people die from cardiovascular disease — that’s twice the number of people who die from cancer. Cardiovascular disease also accounts for more than half of all deaths in women. That’s the bad news. Here’s the good news: Death rates are declining, thanks to early detection, new technology and lifesaving treatment options.
Signs and Symptoms of Heart Attack and Heart Disease.
The signs of heart disease and heart attack differ from person to person, and they vary greatly from men to women. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, call 9-1-1 immediately.
- Chest pressure or discomfort - A pressure, squeezing or fullness in your chest that lasts more than a few minutes — or goes away and then returns.
- Upper-body discomfort - People often report pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach. This is especially true for women.
- Shortness of breath - This can occur with or without chest discomfort and is also a common symptom for women having a cardiac episode.
- Other signs - Some other possible signs include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea and lightheadedness.
